Groups whose Bipartite Divisor Graph for Character Degrees Has Five Vertices

Let $G$ be a finite group and $cd^*(G)$ be the set of nonlinear irreducible character degrees of  $G$. Suppose that $rho(G)$ denotes the set of primes dividing some element of $cd^*(G)$. The bipartite divisor graph for the set of character degrees which is denoted by $B(G)$, is a bipartite graph whose vertices are the disjoint union of $rho(G)$ and $cd^*(G)$, and a vertex $p in rho(G)$ is conne...

The chromatic index of a graph whose core has maximum degree two

Let G be a graph. The core of G, denoted by G∆, is the subgraph of G induced by the vertices of degree ∆(G), where ∆(G) denotes the maximum degree of G. A k-edge coloring of G is a function f : E(G)→ L such that |L| = k and f(e1) 6= f(e2) for all two adjacent edges e1 and e2 of G. The chromatic index of G, denoted by χ′(G), is the minimum number k for which G has a k-edge coloring. A graph G is...

Vertices of given degree in a random graph

The asymptotic distributions of the number of vertices of given degree in random graph K n,p are given. By using the method of Poisson convergence, Poisson and normal distributions are obtained.

Reducing the maximum degree of a graph by deleting vertices

We investigate the smallest number λ(G) of vertices that need to be removed from a non-empty graph G so that the resulting graph has a smaller maximum degree. We prove that if n is the number of vertices, k is the maximum degree, and t is the number of vertices of degree k, then λ(G) ≤ n+(k−1)t 2k . We also show that λ(G) ≤ n k+1 if G is a tree. These bounds are sharp. We provide other bounds t...

High Degree Vertices and Eigenvalues in the Preferential Attachment Graph

The preferential attachment graph is a random graph formed by adding a new vertex at each time-step, with a single edge which points to a vertex selected at random with probability proportional to its degree. Every m steps the most recently added m vertices are contracted into a single vertex, so at time t there are roughly t/m vertices and exactly t edges. This process yields a graph which has...
